Rates for Revision, Review, Post-Editing & Proofreading
I work with texts originally written in English as well as Dutch-to-English translations. This includes:
Post-editing machine translations
Polishing texts written or translated by non-native speakers
Refining English texts to ensure they are ready for publication
To find out about the differences between revision, review, proofreading, and post-editing see the revision & proofreading page. Or get in touch by sending me a quick email or filling in the contact form.
I charge a standard hourly rate of €29 for revision, review and proofreading.
Per-word rates for machine translation post-editing (MTPE/PEMT)
As long as the translation has been produced by a good neural machine translation (NMT) engine, I am happy to charge by the word for MTPE. However, if a translation is poor and needs to be edited to a publishable standard, the standard hourly rate of €29 applies.
Note that the rates below are for post-editing only and do not include a full proofread. To find out about the differences between light, standard and full post-editing, see the MTPE page.
As a general guide, my standard per-word rates for post-editing are:
Light monolingual editing: €0.01 per word
Standard monolingual editing: €0.02 per word
Full monolingual editing: €0.03 per word
Light bilingual editing: €0.02 per word
Standard bilingual editing: €0.04 per word
Full bilingual editing: €0.06 per word
Additional charges
In rare cases, additional fees may apply when a text requires significantly more time to produce a high-quality translation. These will always be agreed in advance. Situations that may incur extra charges include (but are not limited to):
Source text delivered as scanned image or pdf, especially if this is poor quality
Non-native or poorly written Dutch source text
Poor-quality machine translation
Highly specialised content requiring extensive research
Texts with heavy use of jargon
What else do you need to know?
Rates are guidelines only – final pricing depends on the text.
Standard rates apply to jargon-free texts that do not require extensive research.
My minimum charge for translation is €20.
No VAT is charged.
Turnaround times exclude weekends and public holidays.
Correction policy: If I make an error, it will be corrected free of charge if the work is resubmitted within 48 hours. Correction of errors reported after 48 hours and any other corrections, changes or additions requested by you can be made at a rate of €29 per hour.

Invoices are usually sent after the project is completed and approved.
