What Does Translation Cost?

Standard rates

For large projects like books, translation can cost as little as €0.07 cents per word.

My standard per-word rate for translation is €0.10.

I class MTPE as translation too, since it can sometimes take as long as translating from scratch. However, in line with industry colleagues, I offer this service at a reduced rate. My standard per-word rate for MTPE to publishable standard is €0.06. (Click here for comprehensive information on my rates for post-editing.)

I prefer to be paid by the word for translation work because this gives me the freedom to fine-tune a text until it is as good as it can be, offering better value to you. However, if you prefer, you can pay by the hour. My standard hourly rate is €29. (However, please be aware that creative translation can take much longer than general translation!)

Additional charges

Very rarely, when dealing with features of the text that increase the time needed to produce a high-quality translation, additional charges may be applied. These will always be agreed with you in advance before work on your translation begins or as soon as possible thereafter if the issue isn't immediately apparent. This might include (but is not limited to):

What else do you need to know?

These prices are meant as a guide only. Please keep in mind that every text is unique, so I may not be able to tell you with exact precision what it will cost and how long it will take to translate your text until I have seen it.

Payment

Invoices will usually be sent after all of your files have been translated, and you've approved them. However, if your project is large, I may invoice in batches as work is completed rather than at the end. My usual payment term is 30 days, and my preferred payment method is bank transfer to an account in the Netherlands or the UK. Payments can also be made through PayPal, Wise,  and Payoneer.
